Warcraft
War of the Aincents – Well of Eternity by Richard A. Knaak
Introduction
I started to read this book to make a little project to myself. This is considered to be the first book to read if you really want to know the lore of the Warcraft games made by Blizzard.
I havent really played the game, I've tried it several times but havent really been stuck to the game. But I've heard from friends that the story behind the games is huge, so I decided to read all the books, play the old computer games, and then start playing the online game World of Warcraft.
All this, to of course have a good time while reading the books, and later on, enyoy my playtime while playing the online game. There are plenty of Warcraft books, this book in particular is the first part of a triology called War of the Aincents.
The Story
The book starts of with a dragon mage called Karsus/Korialstrasz. Krasus is getting an very important message from above. This threat could cause disastrous consequences in the long run.
He, make sure to contact a long time trusted friend Rhonin. Whoes wife Vereesa expecting twins.
Rhonin will have to leave his wife in order to follow Krasus on this very important misson.
In the book, you also follow Brox, the orc. And Malfurion Stormrage, from the night elf kingdom.
These among alot of other interesting characters that they will face.
My reflections
My reflections of the first book, Well of Eternity. A interestic fact is that you actually dont have to follow the thypical read the first book, countinue with the second etc in order to read all of the Warcraft books. I was told that the book will have alot of time travel. So why is this book considered to be the first book, altought It wasnt the first Warcraft book to be written.? It is because of the timeline. This book is a story from long ago. So of course this book is considered to be the oldest story, therefore, It should be read first.
I would recommend this book to everybody. It's a science fiction, fantasy book so dont look suprised when I say that this book is all about magic. And if you're a gamer like myself, or have played the Warcraft games, this is some absolute read material that you have to let yourself get a catch off.
A warning to the first time readers: Some of the words used in the books, and the games aswell, like druidism, may not come clear at first. I've had some trouble with terms, but the author is quite good in describing the words and phrases. But, the little(!) time I've spend playing the games has given a rough overview of these kinds of words. But google can sureley help you out if you want to get a better understanding of the object, hopefully that will not happen.
So I have to admit that I'm not the reading kind of person. But this book really changed my mind, I couldnt stop reading the book. I'm looking forward to read the following books, which is currently about 17 books. I've linked a forum post about the reading order at the bottom of the page.
But this is not carved in stone, this reading order is no "have to".
